We throw about a party a semester at our house haha. We go all out at least twice a year and it’s so stinking fun. A couple of months ago John Luke told me he wanted to throw a Mardi Gras party since more than half our friends have never heard of Mardi Gras or have had creole food. SO we decided to bring some Louisiana culture up to Virginia and celebrate Mardi Gras!! We strapped a cooler to top of our car that was loaded with deer meat, crawfish, and duck haha.
Everyone came early to help because that was the only way we were going to be able to make all the food. There was literally something on the stove or in the oven from 1 in the afternoon to 10 that night. From the gumbo all the way to the beignets we made as a late night snack. Our friends are the best.
Speaking of our friends. I adore our friends. I absolutely adore who God’s got us doing life with right now. It is so special. I also love how we can have this much fun without needing to have alcohol haha. We’ve got such a fun-loving bunch!
John Luke is the world’s best party planner though. He always knows how to set up a night and comes up with the funnest games. I honestly don’t know how he always pulls it off. That boy loves to create an environment for people to have fun and let loose and I love that about him. The only thing that went wrong was when out grill caught on fire. That kind of seems to be becoming a bit of a tradition…hmm. Something we’re working on haha.
Have a great Fat Tuesday everyone!!
I love your kitchen!! Have you done a tour of it yet? I love those posters too!!
Almost couldn’t see Kel in her “cloak of invisibility”?
Love that y’all have such great friends!
I love love love this!! Being from Louisiana, I often forget that Mardi Gras isn’t “normal” for everyone 🙂 Love that you got to share a little bit of home with your friends!
Absolutely in love with your home! Can you do a house tour? <3
Such a fun time it looks like! It’s special to be able to create that kind of atmosphere with your friends 🙂 Also, dying over that cutting board with a hole for the extras on it. Neeeedddd that.
Mary Kate, your bearded BBQ man friend is real cute ! Haha but in all reality I loved this post! Do you have any tips for throwing parties? I’ve been dreaming of planning one in the summer when it’s a whole lot warmer in Canada! Maybe it’s because it’s winter but a cozy fire and summer nights sound amazing! Oh and p.s if you’ve never tried San Pellegrino sodas I think you guy would like them! A little sweeter than La Croix but super refreshing!
This looks so fun! I love that you and John Luke have made this a tradition for your friend group.
Also, Kelly – I love your hair!
What a fun idea! I lived in Louisiana for 3 years and I absolutely fell in love with the food so I know exactly what you all mean! So awesome you all had a party to share the Louisiana Mardi Gras Culture with them! Love that everyone helped cook too from your pics! Also your king cake looks so cute!! Love reading your blog posts girlie!
