Essential Oils.
I am a believer now.
I’d been hearing all the essential oil hype but was doubtful and they are pricey, so it took me a while to jump on the train. But I’ve jumped on, ridden a while, and don’t see myself ever getting off haha. I finally decided to try the Young Living starter kit when one of my best friend’s Katherine started using it and selling it. I knew Kat would only sale if she really believed in the product. So I got the starter kit and decided to test it out for a while. After about 2 months of using oils I feel like I love them more and more everyday. I am very much a beginner, but one thing I have loved about the Young Living community is how helpful everyone has been. I’m a part of a Facebook page and I love how everyone wants to help everyone out when they have questions.
I shared recently about my family’s battle with Lyme Disease. It has definitely made me much more health-conscious. I can’t remember the exact reason for wanting to start oils, but I just know I was feeling bad physically and mentally and was wanting some relief. I really wanted to find that relief naturally. I’ve had to be put on aderol to be able to focus through my fatigue and there are some time periods I find myself taking ibuprofen daily to get rid of headaches. I knew none of that could be good for me, plus with some medicine there are nasty side-effects.
So as of now, here’s what my oil use looks like:
Lavender
Definitely a favorite. I just love the smell. It helps me sleep so, so well. I have to be careful about my caffeine intake. Being tired all the time it’s easy for me to drink too much coffee/ green tea, which is great for during the day, but if I drink too much it will keep me up at night, which only makes me more tired the next day! Used to I would take Melatonin on those nights, which I don’t think is horrible for you, but I didn’t like being dependent on it. Now I just diffuse lavender and it is so calming it puts me right to sleep.
Panaway
Lyme can leave you with achey muscles and my darn arch in my foot is messed up which leaves me with some neck and back pain. Enter Panaway. Sometimes I’ll put a few drops in my bath or I’ll mix it with lotion and rub it on whatever hurts. It’s like a natural icy-hot and feels SO good. It has been very helpful to me!
Peppermint
I’ll use this for a headache. Even thought I rarely get them now. I’m not sure what changed, but it seems like since I’ve been using my oils I haven’t gotten very many headaches at all when I used to get them daily. I don’t know if I can owe these to my oils, but I feel like it’s either them or something that I cut out by using them, that has made them go away. I”ll defuse peppermint or put a drop behind my ears and on my temples. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. And here’s the thing about oils: some work better for some people than for others. For a lot of people peppermint works great for headaches! But I have a friend who says she didn’t love peppermint for her headaches, but found another oil that is knocking them out. (I wish I knew which oil it was, but I can’t remember- I’m pretty sure it was one in the starter kit though! Or either a mixture of them.) My headaches have been so less frequent though that I haven’t felt like I needed to research another oil yet 🙂 But one thing I have been doing with my peppermint is putting it in some vaseline and using it as a natural lip-plumper…so fun!
Frankincense
A friend and I were talking and she said, “No wonder the wisemen gave Baby Jesus frankincense…it’s like liquid gold!” Amen to that. It works wonders, WONDERS I am telling you, on your skin. It minimizes your pores, tightens skin, reduces acne, and so on. I put it into this serum along with peppermint, lavender, tea tree, jojoba, and rosehip oil, and I have been massaging it onto my face every night and morning, and wow oh wow is it good…I am seeing such a dramatic difference. Definitely a favorite!
Progressance Plus Serum
This is a mixture of oils I have been using. To sum it up, it helps with women’s hormone support. You can read more about it here. But a friend who is WAY more knowledgeable about oils than me says she thinks every woman could benefit from it. (This one is not included in the starter kit.)
Lemon
Young Living has a vitality line which means it’s safe to take by mouth. I put my Lemon Vitality in my water with my chia seeds and it helps curb my appetite plus it tastes good and makes me drink more water! Thinking I’ll try the grapefruit one soon.
R.C.
Anyone else ever gotten addicted to Afrin?? The nose spray that helps you breath? I have haha. I get really bad sinus problems and a stuffy nose especially when I travel and during the winter. It makes it hard to sleep. I tried R.C. for the first time last week and it has completely amazed me! It has eucalyptus in it and makes breathing a breeze. I just put a drop on my feet and on my chest. It worked so well it shocked me haha.
So these are the oils I have been using the most, and except for the Progressance Plus, they are all included in the starter pack. I still have so much to learn, but it honestly has been a fun journey. There are so many oils and so many uses for each oil! I love how they can naturally support health and wellness. Also, interestingly enough, I just started seeing a new Lyme Dr. and I believe she is about to start me on a protocol using essential oils…so if that happens I will be sure to share more. So far they have been so great for me, and I am so excited to see how the Lord can use these for my health in the future. I know there are a lot of essential oils on the market, but to me Young Living is the way to go because 1) You can trust them. They do seed to seal, which means they grow everything so you know it’s safe. 2) The community.
If you think you might want to give them a try, here’s a link you can buy the starter kit from! You’ll be added to our Facebook group where you’ve got your own lil community and support group 🙂 click this link & make sure the “member” box is checked, not “retail customer”! becoming a member doesn’t have any obligations – it just gets you your starter kit & a 24% discount for the future! select the premium starter kit with the dewdrop diffuser (this is the one i have!) & your oils will be on their way!
Definitely check out my friend Abigail for some oil (and house. and life honestly) inspo!

DIY HANDSOAP
Disclaimer: You guys, I’m trying this out for the first time haha. But after looking at a few different ones, you really cannot mess it up.
I decided to make this after very sadly learning Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day soap is not as good for you as it’s cracked up to be. Just scan it in your Think Dirty app. Plus I think I’m about to start saving a ton of money doing this.
I’ve started using Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap, and am IN LOVE. I have it in peppermint and love how clean I feel after a shower, but you can use whichever kind, they have a wide variety. (I have found I cannot use it on my face because it makes me break out really bad, but other than that I have not had any problems with it…so just be careful around your face.) A little goes a LONG way with this soap since it’s very concentrated. I’ve been using the same bottle for months. And it’s multi-purpose…you really just can’t go wrong with it (except maybe on your face if you’re me lol). You can read about it here if you are interested.
What You’ll Need:
Glass Soap Dispenser (Mine is foaming what what)
Dr. Bronner’s Soap (any scent, I chose Peppermint, but you can do scentless and add oils!)
Jojoba Oil (to add a little moisturizer)
Essential Oil (You could omit this if you wanted, but why would ya wanna do that?!) I chose lavender because I’m obsessed with it.
Fill up your dispenser a little ways with your castille soap. I did about a half a cup of Castille soap. Then a tablespoon of jojoba oil and 15 drops of lavender oil. Add two cups of water, give it a shake, and you are good to go! Easy huh?
Hope you guys enjoyed this! I had fun sharing it with ya 🙂
Sweater from Roolee Boutique
Boots are Blundstone, got them through Poshmark though…duh! But they sale factory seconds on Sierra Trading Post, if you want to try and find them cheaper!
posters are Cavallini wrapping paper
jeans from Madewell (got them a few years ago, but I think these are them) Got my eye on these though, and they’re way cheaper!!
MK, I love this! Thanks for sharing! Do you have any suggestions on an essential oil diffuser? I’m looking into getting one 🙂
Thanks! I just use the one that came with my starter kit 🙂 Young Living has a lot, but other than that I might check Amazon??
Oh perfect!! Thanks ?
Oh my gosh, essential oils have seriously helped me so much too. I get chronic headaches and migraines coupled with insomnia. I don’t like relying on medicine a lot because I’ve become immune to ibuprofen and have high tolerance to melatonin pills. Mixing lavender, peppermint, and frankincense has helped me so much with sleeping and headaches. Glad you’ve found something to help with health for you!
I want to try so many of these! I think I would love to take a bath in Panaway after a run and could definitely benefit from R.C. I love using Young Living’s Stress Relief oil on the back of my neck and on my wrists and also love putting orange on a washcloth in the shower in the morning to help wake me up! Thanks for sharing!
Oh I love the idea about using orange on a wash cloth! I might have to try that!
I know you’ve talked about having super sensitive skin- mine is the same. you haven’t noticed any ill effects when rubbing EOs into your face? you’re making me reallly think about purchasing some!
I haven’t noticed any at all! At first I started putting a drop of frankincense into my moisturizer I was already using. Now I’m doing a serum with different essential oils along with carrier oils. They make my skin feel amazing. 🙂
Could you make a post about this? Or tell me how you make this? I just received a starter pack and would love to try a face serum like you mentioned!
also, the link for the young living community doesn’t work!
thank you!! Should be working now!
Have you heard of the essential oils helping with anxiety or depression? I have heard some people who think it helps them and others who don’t! What are your thoughts about that?
I think they can definitely be helpful for that. I believe certain oils coupled with prayer and meditation can be extremely beneficial. My sister and I both experience anxiety at times from Lyme and have both found the orange oil to be immensely helpful after a panic attack.
I make that same oil for my face! I’m not sure if young living has this but I also put Rose Geranium oil in my facial oil it has many facial and hormone benefits 🙂
Do you make the serum you use on your face? If so, can you share the “recipe”!? 🙂
Love this! You should try the mint satin facial scrub from Young Living! It’s amazing!
Wow I love this blog! I have four essential oils, not young living. But I love them! Have you ever tried thieves or tea tree??
I have never used essential oils before but it looks like I need to get on the bandwagon. Great post! Very informative!

I would definitely be interested in the serum with essential oils you use for your face! Do you have a mix/recipe??
I am also interested in your serum and essential oils you use on your face. Do you have a recipe?
Hey! I also use Young Living oils and I love them! I put citrus fresh in my water. It is a mix of citrus and also has a peppermint taste. It is very refreshing!
What is in your diy face serum? Definitely something I’m itching to try!
Hi MK! (and other oilers) I know this is a bit of a personal question, but I am looking at the Progessence Plus YL oil serum and and wondering if any of ya’ll that use it also use birth control for any reason? The website says not to combine the Progessence Plus if also using hormonal birth control, but I know that the website has to state certain things in order to comply with federal laws. Let me know what you think/your personal routine because I would love to use this oil! (feel free to contact me personally if anyone does not feel comfortable sharing online 🙂 )
Have you found any particular oils/combinations that help with your focus?? I’m studying for the CPA and need literally every kind of help I can get lol
