Birthday Dinner with the Boys

The weather lately in Lynchburg has been absolutely amazing!! I am definitely a summer kind of girl and am not a huge fan of winter, because I am not a fan of being cold, but lately it has been just perfect. I am hanging onto all the days where I can wear shorts or a dress and be perfectly comfortable. So the other night when John Luke and I headed out for a birthday dinner for one of his friends (I accidentally crashed guys’ night, oops haha) I pulled out a dress since I won’t be able to wear them much longer!
I also absolutely adore this necklace I have on. Sadie has the same one and let me borrow it for Brighton and Reed’s wedding, and when I got home I just had to get one…I’ve barely taken it off since it came in the mail! Ex Voto Vintage was the sweetest to send me one πŸ™‚ It’s like a tiny gold belt for your neck and I think thats just kinda the coolest thing haha.
Last year I struggled badly with depression (thinking hard about a post on that) and as a result of that found myself wearing a lot of black and dark colors. I do love black actually and there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s where it was coming from for me. Lately I’ve been making it a point to bring color back into my wardrobe as somewhat of a declaration…telling the devil he has no foothold on me. My inside just feels so happy and joyful now that I want to express it on the outside in any way I can!
necklace: Ex Voto Vintage
dress:  Blooms and Linen

boots: Duck and Dressing (similar here and here)

  1. What a cute outfit. Your style is so Bohemian-chic! So sorry to hear that you struggled with depression last year. I am sure lots of young women out there would be blessed to hear your story.

  2. You should definitely write a blog about your struggle with depression. It will inspire so many young girls, Mary Kate.

    Hi MK-
I'm 15, and I entered into a struggle with depression last year. Here is a link to my blog on my story:

Battling with yourself is tough. I won that war in my mind with only Jesus. Let me know if you enjoy!

  4. To hear your story of depression would be so inspiring. As someone who struggles with both depression and anxiety, I've looked up to you as a source of light and inspiration throughout my journey. I often thought that something was wrong with me and no one else felt like I did so to just even hear that you have struggled with this is a beautiful reminder that not only do we have an amazing Father with us, but our peers as well.

  5. I'm so happy you've been writing lots of posts lately!! And I think I need that necklace. I have been struggling with anxiety so I'd love to see you write a post about depression. I know it can be difficult to put yourself out there like that though. Either way, much love for you!

It would be great to hear about your story of depression, from one college age girl to another. We need to be there for one another <3

Hi mary kate! I'm alexis and I'm 18 and I'm from lafayette Louisiana. And I just wanted to say what an inspiration you are to me and if you ever feel your self leaning towards writing a blog about your experience with depression , it would be greatly received. Over the past year or two I've struggled with that my self and now I'm finally trying to get my life back and you have really helped me by showing me that things can be accomplished through love and God . So

  11. You look fantastic and you have an amazing smile. πŸ™‚

I read your post about your struggle with depression. I am super impressed by you, a young woman, holding so fast to God. While I have never personally struggled with clinical depression, I do understand that we all need to learn to hold fast to God, regardless of how things might look in our lives and I know that we have all struggled with something. You are a huge blessing and are an example for young women everywhere. God bless you.
