So I started “The LittleDuckwife” a couple of months before John Luke and I got married and one of my main reasons for starting it was to keep family and friends back home updated on what our little Robertson family is up to. I love these little “life lately” posts, because that is exactly what they are for: just to keep anyone who wants to know updated on what we’ve got going! So here’s our life lately through the pictures on my camera roll.
We got back from tour exactly 2 weeks ago. I took this semester off because we are missing so much school from tour and then family weddings. JL is taking one residential class and several online classes (I’ll probably share more about school in a later post). The first week was mainly spent trying to catch up sleep. But when Friday rolled around we had one more thing to do:
Celebrate Pippa’s first birthday!!
Haha I’m sure we sound crazy, but we sure do love her and we also love a reason to celebrate.
So Friday called for party hats, a new toy, and a birthday party (which consisted of us and my friend Lori singing happy birthday while videoing and laughing like crazy at what was going on).
Saturday we got out of the house to watch Liberty’s homecoming game!! Well, “watch” is a strong word for what we did…we had a lot of catching up to do with friends :))
Sunday we went to the early service at church and oh was it good to be back at church after being on the road for a month!! Then we went to our friend Katherine’s surprise birthday brunch.
(girls’ pic vs. guys’ pic)
Kat and I had a lot of catching up to do as well so we headed out Monday to the flower farm and then to the prettiest spot I’ve seen yet in town!!
(I’ve also been learning more about my camera and also editing! Any photographers out there with any cool tips feel free to leave a comment!!)
Thursday rolled around and it was time to head back to Louisiana for Brighton and Reed’s wedding! One of us ended up making it back home that night…and the other had to spend the night in Atlanta (We’d normally stick together, but wedding schedules called for me to go on by myself). I was welcomed by my parents and Baby T and they took me to my favorite spot in town for dinner 🙂
Friday morning we had a bridal luncheon and then rehearsal and rehearse dinner Friday night!!
Saturday we had an early morning then the best day of hanging out together, getting hair and makeup done, and drinking lots of coffee! Before we knew it, it was time!
Brighton was a beautiful bride…absolutely breath-taking.
(We tried to recreate our picture together from my wedding! Crazy how we just reversed roles in such a short amount of time…so sweet.)
A highlight of the weekend home was time with these two!!
Obsessed with my forever wedding date!!
Another highlight was seeing one of my best friends, Linda Claire!!! We talked for probably close to 2 hours at the reception.
Then back to Delhi to see my precious family and have a great end to such a wonderful weekend! Teagon was so happy to have his sisters and “Jute” home 🙂
So you see what I’ve been up to lately, but this is what I’ve been learning lately:
“I Am who I Am.”
The week I got back from tour I was feeling super down. I was struggling with going from being super busy to…well, not being super busy. I went to Bible study that night and God definitely spoke straight to me from my friend Rachel. She was talking on Exodus 3:14, where The Lord says, ‘I Am who I Am.” God is whatever we need Him to be. If we need strength, He says, “I Am strength.” Thats the same with joy, peace, a friend, etc. I realized I was putting so much of my worth into how much I could get done in a day and how much I felt like I could accomplish in a day. Thats why when I came home I had such a hard time being ok with resting. I was needing that feeling of accomplishment, and when I wasn’t accomplishing anything I felt worthless. I was trying to fulfill something in myself that ultimately God can only fulfill…I needed to be reminded that my worth is not in anything I do, but who I am in Him: a daughter of The King.
Hi Mary Kate! I'm a college student at Clemson University and love keeping up with your website, seeing your adventures and how the Lord is teaching you! I love all of our pictures, they are always so cute! I was just wondering what kind of camera do you use?
Anyways, I also wanted to encourage you that even though resting is hard, just know that times of rest are also times of preparation for whatever the Lord has for you next. I know you and John Luke have more great things coming in the future and the Lord is going to continue to use you both! Have a great day and keep letting God speak through you.
God definitely has something in store for you and rest all that you can so that you can be ready for what He calls you to next ! Love love love all of the pictures !
Fantastic read. I love the ending. sometimes we just have to embrace the now and you're right! We are who we are and all we can strive for is to be the best in heart and purpose.
Definitely needed this tonight! It is crazy to think that we can be fulfilled by our good works when in reality only God can fulfill our needs. Lately I've been working for a very good cause, but it has taken me away from what God called me to do and I've also done it for all the wrong reasons. So I was definitely blessed to read your tid bit at the end:) Thank you for posting for not only little inspiration like clothing or pictures, but also for spiritual reminders!
What photo editing site do you use and how to you achieve the tones in your photographs? I absolutely love you feed and everything you have to say. You are such an encourager!
Mary Kate…you hit this out of the park. I don't know why I'm JUST NOW SEEING THIS EPIC GOLD, but I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. You are not alone in your struggles. This is what I needed to hear, as I'm switching from a working gal to a stay at home-youth minister wife-dog mom ? I work maybe 3 days a week and sometimes I feel like a failure. But that's only because I've been measuring my worth by the world's standard…but this place isn't my home! Thank you for reminding me to continue looking up, and to find true fulfillment from our King. Girl, seriously. You rock. And you look darn tootin' cute while doing it. Give your sweet pup a hug for me! ;)))
