when john luke asked me to go to the beach with him and his family I had no idea what i was in for.
i had heard stories from the robertson family beach trips, but you really don’t know what something is like until you experience it yourself. i mean, he always talked about them like they were sacred and like heaven on earth…or something like that.
he wasn’t lying.
this was one of my favorite trips i’ve ever been on.
so here we go!
we had a little caravan going on from louisiana to alabama. our car consisted of me, jl, sadie, and cousin a.j. (its always a blast when she comes into town!). oh and we can’t forget john luke’s sailboat.
then reed, brighton, and cole trailing behind us.
the squad was back together.
day 1:
started the day laying out in the hammocks with the girls
and we found some pretty cool shells
read a good bit…
john luke reading “A.D. 30” while i was completely captivated by You and Me Forever by Francis and Lisa Chan.
then out comes the sailboat!
and everybody was interested in that! and some of us were interested in seeing if the boys were ok 😉

after a little paddle boarding with a.j. look what washed up on my board!
the babies were loving the beach.
then the teenagers had a night out at the hangout. the hangout is this really fun, lively place to eat, complete with a stage and live music.
day 2:
had a nice morning walk on the beach and then some more laying out/ reading on the beach.
and some fun pool time with my boy

day 3:
due to some rain and stormy weather, we decided to head out for the day.
started at the coolest surf/ skate shop, blonde john’s, where the boys checked out longboards while we had a mini photoshoot. i mean, who could pass up this wall?
after a little shopping at the outlet mall in foley, we had the best evening at the wharf where we had dinner and caught a movie
day 4:
back to blonde john’s where john luke got a longboard and i got breakfast. acai bowls are my fav.
then back to the house where john luke taught me to ride
day 4:
started the day off learning to make biscuits from the cooking queen herself, mamaw kay 🙂
then john luke and i had this bright idea that we should take a paddle board out despite the wind and waves (this picture does NOT give those waves justice!)
not pictured: the knot i got on my head from him accidentally hitting me with the paddle. but not to worry….we have the whole thing recorded on the gopro.
the squad decided we wanted to try out this 12 mile long trail we had heard about.
i was the lone biker alongside all my boarding friends.
john luke gave me this pretty little thing for my bday…obsessed.
after about 2 miles the rain hit. and it hit hard. blake had gone to get the car for me, brighton, and sadie, while the other boys went ahead. after he picked us up we went on a mad goose hunt for jl, cole, and reed. we found them. soaking wet, phones broken, and all.
day 5:
DEEP SEA FISHING
it was my first time and actually mostly everybody’s first time.
we caught our limit of fish and we got a lot of sleep to avoid the dreaded sea sickness haha. but we had a blast!
then we made it back in time for beach pictures.
i tried to capture the trip the best i could, but i don’t know if the pictures even do it justice! it was such a fun, relaxing, but action-packed trip. we made the absolute best of our time there despite the rainy days and got to spend a lot of good quality together.

Mary Kate, I just want to say thank you for everything you do. I very much enjoy reading your blogs and keeping up with pretty much all your family on Instagram. Your family is such an inspiration to me and felt that I needed to reach out to tell you. You all have been my role models for awhile now and that will never stop. I know you may never acknowledge this or me but it makes me happy to think that someday you will, and that day will be in Heaven. It has been my dream for a long time now to meet and talk to someone from the family.. Please make my dream come true.. Congratulations! I was just watching Duck Dynasty season 2 the other day and saw John Lukes baby face. And I heard yall were now married, and it is a blessed thing. Always keep God in y'all's relationship. Forever be faithful. And I hope yall are having a happy life together! PS- my brothers name is John Luke also!
